Making the XP to Vista x64 Switch

by Steve Cook
(Columbia, MO)

Like many I upgrade my hardware about every three years to try and stay as current as my finances will allow.

This time I actually waited till my hardware began giving up the ghost to avoid the dreaded switch from Windows XP to Vista operating systems.

As many will attest the information out there concerning Vista is somewhat less than desirable so I was rather apprehensive about making the switch.

After debating for some time and realizing that my laptop was nearing the total break-down stage I decided to jump in all the way. I selected a laptop that ran Vista Home Premium x64. “In for a penny in for a pound”, right?

I was amazed how well the transition went! My older Samsung color laser printer installed without a hitch, Yeah!!

All my software installed with no problems, even all my scanner stuff is working with no problems at all. So far, two months later I have had no hardware or software crashes.

I’m quite impressed and satisfied with my transition.

As for Vista…. I love it!! There has been no hard learning curve. Things are clear, straight forward, and easy to get around.

From my perspective the change to Vista has been a completely positive experience. I don’t think I’ll ever look back. Now as for Microsoft Office 2007…. That’s a whole different experience...
