Windows Vista Update

I have vista

i have windows vista for my laptop and it has windows vista home premium built in.

I thought that vista would be better than XP because vista is newer and has just came out.

But some people i know say microsoft made a big mess of it and it slows down performance.

Im not sure which is better? please tell me!
