this should work for ya!! :)
by: TheGuyTony

When starting a Windows Vista computer I got an error saying that Windows Defender cannot be started and error code 0x800106ba is shown.
After much web searching and trying many options one thing I found worked for me.
Go to Control Panel then select System and Maintenance and then clicking Administrative Tools then finally select Services.
I scrolled down to Windows Defender service and to my surprise it was deactivated and stopped.
To fix this I double clicked that service to open it, then chose the option to start automatic on start up, then I was able to click on the Start service button.
I then clicked on Apply and Restarted the computer ,windows Defender started up fine.

Same on all accounts. In fact my mother board was just replaced by HP due to the warranty problems they are having. The support their has no idea how to fix it either. Still looking for fix. At this point never again will I purchase a HP or deal with Windows Vista.

yeah Im having the same problem, starting to think its a scam to get you to buy more products. also having a problem with "yoog" search taking over IE google toolbar, theres just no way to get rid of it, have been working on these problems for 5 days with no success just 100s of people with the same problems and no solutions, microsoft can't be bothered to post a solution on their own site.

Vista 64bit and Windows Defender
by: Mary

I would love to download this program to fix this same error, but it does not work with Vista 64-bit. So far, I am not impressed with this operating system....nothing is compatible!
