HTC Phone 8x getting Wireless Charging for Verizon only?
The Nokia Lumia 920 is clearly billed as the flagship Windows Phone 8 device on the market with tons of premium features such as wireless charging thrown into the mix.
Still, not everyone wants the Lumia 920. For one thing, it’s limited AT&T-only status (at least for now) means that there are many consumers that just can’t get it unless they are willing to drop their current carrier.
For those of us that want something completely different, there are several other options out there. For Verizon there is currently the Nokia Lumia 822 and the HTC Phone 8X.
These two phones have clearly different design approaches and with Nokia you get wireless charging. Don’t worry though, it seems that HTC is joining in on the wireless charging party as well, or at least a new rumor reported by the Verge seems to suggest.
The support will be built in to the phone’s case and won’t cause the wireless version to be any bigger than the current wireless-free version. For Big Red customers, you be happy to know that only Verizon is getting this version it seems.
Unfortunately we don’t know much more than that. The wireless charging standard that is being used is unknown, so is the potential pricing for this unit. Here is the big question though, how does the HTC Phone 8x compare? It seems to be pretty close to being on par with the Lumia 920 and adding wireless charging helps even the battlefield by quite a bit. The HTC Phone 8x also seems to have won the approval of our own Windows Phone 8 skeptic, Onuora Amobi.
Wireless charging is the future and is good to see that many of the Windows Phone 8 offerings seem to be embracing the technology. What do you think?
