How to guarantee the Nokia Lumia 920 fails – tie it to AT&T

If you have a cell phone that you want to sell in the United States, here’s a great idea - Make it exclusive to a carrier that has one of the WORST reputations for coverage in the country.

That’s the brilliant idea that Nokia and Microsoft have come up with.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be available EXCLUSIVELY on AT&T in the United States according to TheVerge. They will also have the 820.

The 920 will be available in red, black and white and the 820 will be available in black only (that makes sense???).

They will be available in November and we don’t know how much the units will cost.

Yeah, Apple are trembling. I wonder how long it will take Nokia to tell us how many units they sell this time?

    I totally agree with you. This AT&T exclusivity is dumb and a total fail. It’s like Microsoft WANT’S its “flagship” Windows Phone to be unavailable to thousands of Verizon customers. I just don’t get it.

    Now, if AT&T did an awesome (apple-like) marketing for the Lumia and put it over the top of all other Android phones, and if AT&T sold a lot of Lumia 900s, then I would think MS is winning by this deal. But none of this is true. I don’t see what benefit MS is getting by this.

      Seems to me that you only make something exclusive when it’s been PROVEN to be valuable.

      I totally agree that is should have come to the Big Red. Very bummed. I currently have an Android phone but was somewhat considering the Lumia 920 when my contract expires– now it isn’t even an option for me.

      Sure, I could switch to AT&T in theory, but they have AWFUL coverage in my small-town area.

    I dont know if MS had anything to do with this, but it is incredibly stupid. They tried this route last time and it didnt work. They need as many sales as possible, so the first thing they do is limit their market, AGAIN?

    I have no sympathy for the train wreck that is coming. Such a nice phone too. Such a shame.
