I am tickled pink by this company.

This is the perfect example of capitalism at it’s finest. They saw a need in the market and man did they ever fill it!

Stardock have released a near-final build of Start8, the utility that adds the Start button back to the Windows 8 desktop.

In addition, Start8 also provides a fully functional post-Windows 7 style Start menu!

Some of the new features:

  • Adds a classic style “Start” menu to the Windows 8 taskbar.
  • Includes support for:
    • View and launch installed applications (including Metro/Modern)
    • All Programs menu, quick links to commonly accessed folders (Documents, Music, Photos, Computer, and more).
  • Adds searchable Start menu options for Windows desktop applications, Metro/Modern applications, and documents.
  • Adds a “Start” button to the Windows 8 taskbar.

    Yes, I agree the latest version of Startdock is superior to the earlier version. I’m sure using it as an add-on to windows 8 will make a lot of users happy. Curious about your ire, Onuora, about Samsung tinkering with Windows 8 on their computers given your recent enthusiasm for Startdock.

      I guess my irony has been lost on you – LOL. I absolutely have the same disdain for both.

      I do grudgingly respect Stardock though because they are a third party with no real ties to Microsoft.

      Samsung on the other hand….

    stardock is cool but for me I love the simplicity of windows 8 UI and will not use stardock

      Out of curiosity, I installed this yesterday and played around with it for about half an hour. I guess I’ve gotten use to Windows 8 in its native environment, because this felt unnatural to me. I was certainly bored with Windows 7, and like max, I love the simplicity of the Modern UI as well. I uninstalled Stardock, as you’ve guessed already.

      I suppose a lot of folks will love it. It was a nice effort on Stardock’s part, just not for me.

      Onuora, WTH dude? I’m with Tassy Devil on this one.

    I am glad to see all the “Modern UI” love. I personally don’t even have an urge to try stardock. I am quite pleased with what MS has provided. And I know Windows 7. A great OS, but if that is what I wanted, that is what I would buy, not a knock off. Now there are times I find myself disappointed while using any thing other than Windows 8. Surprises me all the FUD memes out there have held on so long when they are patently poor logic. I won’t call them lies, because I think the people truly believe them, but I don’t think they hold up to reality.

    I think those guys are crazy who still want to use classic start menu in windows 8 as new start ui is much better, faster and fluid than the older one.
    If you use classic menu in windows 8 then you want to kill innovation and new technology that Microsoft is trying to introduce.
