More brilliance from the Gartner Group
I love these quotes.
I just wrote about the confusion that users will inevitably face if the Windows Phones they bought this year can’t be upgraded to Windows Phone 8.
In response to the same issue on Wired, Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg had this to say:
“I don’t think it’s going to affect anything. This is inside baseball for technology writers and readers and enthusiasts. Consumers are buying based on today. People bought iPad 2s right up until the new iPad was released. In the end of the day, it becomes a non-issue.”
On one hand, I get what he’s trying to say. We are paying an inordinate amount of attention to the issue and the average user has no idea what Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) is.
On the other hand, it’s not rocket science – Windows Phone 8 is expected to have MAJOR feature enhancements. If I buy a Nokia Lumia 900 today and I am told at the end of the year that I can’t upgrade it, there will be a problem.
I can promise you that it won’t be “inside baseball”.
Maybe it’s just me…
