So imagine you have this thriving website with thousands of daily visitors and you got to sleep on Saturday night thinking about new posts for the week that you have to edit, new writers you've hired etc.
Then you wake up and head to the site (like you've done a million times before) with your cup of coffee and you type in "www.windows8update.com" and this screen comes up.
And you try to get into your control panel and it gives you the same screen.
What do you do? Panic and scream might sound like the reasonable option but the right answer is slow down and breathe.
Long story short, because I am a geek and I know WordPress really well, I was able to fix this in 25 minutes.
I would love to tell you what they did and what the fix was but that would be teaching bad people exploits and fixes.
Won't do it.
Bottom line is, if you're a webmaster, make sure you back up PLENTY and take it seriously. I could restore this site from absolutely nothing in 45 minutes.
It takes time and money but it's well worth the investment.
I thought it was just me but I am sad to say, my hosting company (Inmotion Hosting) had a bunch of sites hit as well.
Maybe it's time to move to HostGator?
Those of you who have VPS hosting, whats the best VPS hosting company out there?
