According to numbers released on June 21 by Boston-based research firm Strategy Analytics, global tablet shipments reached 15 million units in the second quarter of 2011.
Apple remained in first position with 61 percent share — down from 94 percent a year earlier.
Tablets running Android, moved rapidly to 30 percent operating system share from 3 percent in the year-ago second quarter.
Microsoft? ... well Windows 7 tablet share grew from zero percent in Q2 2010, to 4.6 percent in Q2 2011.
Don't read too much into the numbers though - Microsoft's real entry into this fight will be with Windows 8 next year. the adoption rate for THAT tablet will be the true test of Microsoft's muscle in the tablet space..
