So everyone is going on now about Windows 8 coming out in 2012 so I thought I would throw my hat into the ring.
While I understand that a Microsoft blog alluded to that date, I think it's just speculation at this point.
Ultimately, Operating System upgrades at their best either:
- Solve problems their predecessors did not
- Solve problems we did not know were problems
The latter is Apple's style - giving us things that we didnt know we needed.
Microsoft has traditionally been good about giving us incremental progress. A little here and there. Fixing things that obviously needed fixing...
With the tremendous success of Windows 7, I believe it has complicated the scenario for a quick migration to Windows 8.
Windows 7 works. It works well. It hasn't even really needed an urgent Service Pack - thats amazing.
Microsoft will need to look long and hard for improvements that will justify asking corporate customers to go through this upgrade cycle again.
My bet is, Windows 8 will come out in 2013/2014.
The timing is based on the amount of time it will take for Windows 7 to have thorough enterprise adoption and how long it will take to have justified, developed and tested upgrades to Windows 7 funtionality.
Thats just me, what do you guys think?
Update: I guess I am on top of my game..This Article confirms what I said earlier today...
